Engine 901 is stationed at Central Fire Station in the Downtown area of the City. It serves the entire downtown area but also routinely supplements the response to fire alarms throughout our 32.4 square mile response district. Engine 901 is our busiest engine.

Engine 901 is one of three 2000 Spartan/4-Guys 1500 GPM rescue engines added to our fleet. (We received two in December, 2000 and the third is due in May, 2001.) The cabs and body are completely stainless steel construction. The Pump is a Hale Q-Max 1500 single stage fire pump. It has four 200’ 2" crosslays, one 400’ 2" rear pre-connected line and two 5" LDH discharges on the curb side, as well as a TFT Crossfire deck gun with extend-a-gun base. These are the first engines here to be equipped with a pre-connected front bumper trash line of 100’ of 2" line. There are three main suction inlets, one on each side and one at the rear, each adapted to 5" Storz couplings. The tank is a combination water/foam tank with a 1000 gallon water cell, a 15 gallon Class A foam cell and a 50 gallon Class B foam cell. The foam is piped to the pump panel with quick connect storz couplings to attach the pick up tubes from Akron 250 GPM inline eductors.

The engine is a Detroit Diesel Series 60 inline 6 cylinder providing 500 horsepower. The transmission is the Allison World transmission, which is a 5 speed automatic. The trucks also have as the NFPA required auxiliary breaking device the TELMA electromagnetic drive line retarder.

The cabs are 6 person, all stainless steel with secure in cab mounting for water can extinguishers, hand lights, and a set of "Irons" so that the firefighters can be ready for duty when they exit the cab at any alarm. There has also been provisions made to carry one of two of the departments TIC's (thermal imaging cameras) in the cab close to the officer for quick deployment.

These trucks are also equipped with a 10KW Harrison hydraulic driven generator and four 1000 watt telescopic floodlights, two on each side of the apparatus. One Hannay cable reel is installed in the body with 200’ of cable wired to a Circle D four way junction block.

The bodies were manufactured by 4-Guys Fire Apparatus of Myersdale, PA.

The cabs and chassis were manufactured by Spartan Motors of Lansing, MI.
